Hagar

Hagar" - The Egyptian woman, the maid of Sarah, the wife of the righteous Abram.

"Hagar" is a type of "the Church," the assembly of people of a certain historical period, whose faith is characterized by imperfect reasoning and fulfillment of the Will of the One God. It is a spiritual characteristic of those believers who "have a zeal for God, but not for reason." (Rom.10:2).

It is an image of spiritless religiosity, relying only on sensual-emotional, blind faith. It is a religion and its followers who are in spiritual bondage to religious prejudice, burdened by rituals, trappings, and traditions; a religion with "Egyptian"-sinful roots, dependent on the state, political systems of the world.

"Hagar the Servant", is a symbol only of the sensual fulfillment of the Will of God, serving the "letter" of the Law, but which "serves", i.e. morally and morally educates man, and by this contributes to the possibility of the true Faith, represented in the image of "Sarah", "giving birth" to new followers.
