"Barabbas" symbolizes the treacherous leaders of various false religions, beliefs, who, in relation to the true doers of God's Commandments, behaved like robbers, as they used both spiritual and physical violence against righteous people.  

"Barabbas" - "Robber" - is also a symbol of deceitful religious and violent politicians who, rejecting, violating the Will of God, do extremely lawless deeds:   for their selfish purposes by violent methods, by the power of sinful religious, political influence on people's consciousness, they kill faith in righteous life, by force of deception destroy conscience, rob, boldly appropriate and cynically pervert spiritual values alien to them, create an atmosphere of intransigence and struggle, thus committing religious, national, political plunder.
