"Salt" is a symbol of God's Word, the Truth of His Will, expressed in His Commandments revealed to the Patriarchs, Prophets, Christ, Apostles, the knowledge and fulfillment of which protects man from spiritual "depravity," from the corruption of his conscience and mind by sin, everything that destroys his physical and spiritual life.

         "Salt" is also a symbol of righteous living people who fulfill God's Commandments, who, being among sinful living peoples, by preaching to them the Truth of God's Will, so contribute to the preservation of good principles in people. These righteous men constitute the spiritual force that purifies, sustains, strengthens, and protects the life of the nations from complete moral and spiritual decay.

        "The Salt of the Covenant" is the Word of the Truth of God's Covenants, the Commandments, uttered by the righteous to protect, preserve man from moral decay and spiritual death. 

       The "Salt of the Earth" is the Righteous, who by their pious way of life and the preaching of God's Word proclaim to the peoples of the world the Truth of His Will, saving and preserving society from moral and spiritual corruption by sin.
