"Beard" is a symbol of spiritual maturity, spiritual and moral adornment and dignity and man.

In nature a "beard" is a sign of man's physical maturity, a sign of manhood. Therefore, to deprive someone of his beard was considered a dishonor (2 Samuel 10:4ff; cf. Is.7:20; 50:6).
